Car crash south of Auckland leaves one dead

A person is dead after a car crashed into a power pole south of Auckland today.

The accident happened at the intersection of Gleeson and Awhitu Roads in Pollok, 60km south west of Papakura, Inspector Ian Brooker of northern police communications told NZPA.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 4pm.

There was only one person in the vehicle at the time, Mr Brooker said.
