KEY POINTS:
Passengers trying to catch a plane and leaving the airport yesterday had long waits after a traffic accident outside the Auckland Airport domestic terminal closed roads.
Police issued a warning for domestic air travellers to expect long delays after the accident, at a set of traffic lights on the corner of Andrew McKee Ave and George Bolt Memorial Drive.
Police northern communications Inspector Turepu Keenan said two vans collided about 4pm.
One rolled, causing a blockage on George Bolt Memorial Drive and reducing traffic to one lane.
Traffic was being diverted down Ray Emery Drive for about four hours, to take vehicles to the back of the Qantas end of the domestic terminal. The road opened about 8 o'clock last night.
St John Ambulance spokesman Murray Bannister said two people - one from each van - were taken to Middlemore Hospital in serious conditions.
Firefighters from Mangere were called to help administer first aid, a northern fire communications centre spokesman said.
An airport spokeswoman said she hadn't heard of people missing their flights because of the accident.
"There are diversions so people are still able to get around it, it's just a bit slower than usual."
