Three people were injured after a car crashed into a power pole this morning, causing a fire which spread to a nearby home.
Fire southern communications team leader Andrew Norris said a vehicle carrying three people crashed at 6.30am on State Highway 1 in Winchester, between Temuka and Geraldine in Canterbury.
The fire quickly spread to a neighbouring home, causing significant damage, Mr Norris said. All occupants of the house managed to escape the fire unharmed.
The three people in the vehicle were treated by ambulance. Details of their injuries were unknown.
Mr Norris said crews from Geraldine and Temuka were still at the scene dampening down hot spots.
