Emergency services were kept busy with a series of accidents yesterday, including one in which a car flipped, bringing down power lines across a busy West Auckland road.
The car, carrying five people, was heading west along Ash St in New Lynn when it crashed on to its side.
All five occupants were taken to Auckland City Hospital, four with moderate injuries and one in a serious condition.
A St John spokesman said the accident followed a two-car crash on State Highway 1 near Kaiwaka at 4pm.
The Helimed Helicopter flew three people to Northland Base Hospital with minor to serious injuries. A fourth person, with moderate injuries, was taken to hospital by ambulance.
In Auckland there were several accidents involving pedestrians and cars during the late-afternoon rain.
One person received moderate injuries after being hit by a car in Newmarket, and a woman, believed to be in her 20s, was seriously injured by a car in Ponsonby.
Meanwhile, police investigating a fatal crash in Green Bay on Thursday night are confident the vehicle involved was also used in an attempted robbery on the same night.
A 19-year-old woman, who was last night named as Shannon Tilby of New Lynn, was killed and three others critically injured when the red Honda crashed on Connaught St at 8.40pm.
