A man entered the bank about 11.40am on Wednesday and passed a note to the female teller demanding money.
He left the bank with an undisclosed sum of cash, fleeing in a silver Ford Falcon stationwagon, registration ZY1558 that was later recovered in a nearby street.
Constable Chris Cummings of Ngaruawahia police said today the Falcon was stolen from Te Awamutu on February 20.
Police were keen to trace its movements between then and when the robbery took place.
The offender is described as a male Maori or Polynesian, aged about 32 years, of solid build and approximately 1.78m tall.
He was wearing a quite distinctive winter style hat with ear covers with a peaked cap beneath it.
