Traffic was delayed for several hours in south Auckland after a car and a petrol tanker collided about 4am today.
Three people were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries when the tanker was struck on the front wheel arch by the car.
The petrol tanker was not leaking but one of the victims, a woman, was trapped for some time until firefighters freed her from the wreckage.
Police said a busy Wiri intersection was blocked for several hours until the tanker could be removed about 7.30am and traffic began to flow freely.
All the injured people were taken to hospital. The other two received moderate to serious injuries.
