Thousands of fans lined Wellington's Golden Mile yesterday as floats carrying 16 international rugby sevens teams paraded through the city before the tournament today and tomorrow.
The teams were accompanied by blasting music, bagpipes and brass bands on the lunchtime journey.
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown and NZ Sevens coach Gordon Tietjens both spoke when the parade arrived at Civic Square.
After the celebrations had finished, New Zealand captain DJ Forbes said his teammates were pleased to see such great support in the capital.
"It's always special. I think everyone knows that we are a proud rugby nation, so every time you put on that black jersey, you expect to win."
