Today's sentencing of former Christian Heritage Party leader Graham Capill has been delayed following new charges, one of which relates to an allegation of rape, being laid against him.
Capill was to be sentenced in the Christchurch District Court today on a representative charge of indecent assault of an 8-year-old girl.
However, his lawyer Jonathan Eaton has asked for it to be delayed after two further charges were laid against the father of 10 yesterday. Mr Eaton said the charges related to two further complainants who had come forward last month and made serious allegations against Capill. "They are very serious allegations, including an allegation of rape."
Capill, a police prosecutor and church reverend, last month admitted the charge of indecent assault. He fondled the genitals of the girl in her bed in the year before November 2002.
