A search has begun in central Canterbury after four trampers failed to return home last night.
Four men from Christchurch were reported missing in the Chest Peak area, west of Oxford, by concerned family members late yesterday.
Oxford search and rescue are using 4WD vehicles to scour the area.
Weather is damp and cold, police say.
"The generally feeling is their vehicle has probably broken down," a police spokesman said.
