Police have released the name of an elderly man who died after his car crashed on the Hororata-Dunsandel Road yesterday.
He was Francis Joseph (Harry) O'Boyle, 70, of Darfield.
Mr O'Boyle was taken to Christchurch Hospital after the crash, which happened between 7.30pm and 8.40pm on the Hororata-Dunsandel Road, west of Christchurch.
However, he died from his injuries about 3am today.
Senior Constable Rob Stuart, of Leeston police, said police wanted to hear from anyone who saw Mr O'Boyle's silver Ford Fairlane, registration FKP356, in the Dunsandel area between 7.30pm and 8.40pm yesterday.
