Canterbury crash victim named

A 51-year-old man killed in a single-vehicle crash in Canterbury last night has been named.

Terrence Walter Beardsmore, of Oxford, 55km northwest of Christchurch, died after crashing his car on Old West Coast Road in Darfield about 6.40pm.

A child, believed to be aged under 10, was taken to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries.

One other person was killed on the roads over the weekend, in a crash in the southern Hawke's Bay last night.

Emergency workers could not revive the man after a crash on State Highway 2 near the intersection with Tataramoa Rd, 9km north of Dannevirke, about 7.15pm.

The serious crash unit was investigating.
