Police have named a 22-year-old Canterbury farm worker killed he lost control of his car early yesterday morning.
Matthew James Orr, from Leeston, about 40km southwest of Christchurch, was killed when his car went through a gorse hedge and rolled on a straight stretch of the Leeston-Taumutu Road, west of Lake Ellesmere, about 1.30am.
Constable Herbert Inwood of Lincoln police said alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, and Mr Orr was not wearing a seatbelt.
Police were investigating. It was the only reported road death of the weekend.
