KEY POINTS:
The introduction of Environment Canterbury's Air Plan will be held up, after the unanimous adoption of recommendations made by commissioners who reviewed the scheme.
The plan deals with a raft of rules around air quality in the city and in rural areas. It includes the banning of open fires and the replacement of wood burners and solid fuel burners that are 15-years old or more from Christchurch.
In rural areas farmers will be banned from burning polyethelene agricultural wraps or agricultural and animal remedy containers without resource consent.
So far Christchurch City Council and one individual have made applications to appeal the plan. However more appeals are expected.
