Between 145 and 150 cyclists are expected to be participating.
Former road cycling Olympian, 57-year-old Stephen Cox, will be cycling to raise money for The Head Injury Network for Kiwis (THINK) charity.
THINK promotes awareness and prevention of head injury.
Mr Cox said he had hardly touched a bike since retiring from competitive cycling more than 20 years ago.
He has so far raised $785 and said if donations get up to $1500 he will ride with shaved legs and at $2000 will ride his 30-year-old bike from the Brisbane Commonwealth Games.
THINK Cycling Ambassador Ken Feist will also be participating in the challenge to raise money for the charity.
More information about the challenge can be found on the Dynamo Events website: www.dynamoevents.co.nz
