A woman suffering suspected hypothermia was rescued after falling into the Whanganui River during a three-day canoe trip.
The woman, in her 50s, was part of a group of 16 people who left Ohakune on Saturday and headed out on the river with a guide. She overturned her canoe and began suffering from the wet and cold.
The group stopped overnight and activated a locator beacon yesterday. The woman was picked up by a rescue helicopter and taken to hospital while the rest of the group resumed their trip.
