A young child was at an address where a man was burnt when the cannabis oil he was cooking exploded yesterday, according to police.
Police and emergency services rushed to the explosion in a shed on Whatawhata Rd, northwest of Hamilton, about 1pm.
Hamilton police spokesman Andrew McAlley said the 37-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Waikato Hospital with burns to his hands and chest.
Detective Sergeant Ricky Thompson of the Hamilton CIB said the man's female partner and a young child were at the property at the time of the blast.
"Given our warnings of the risks associated with children being exposed to the manufacture and dealing of illicit drugs identified during Operation Share two weeks ago it's concerning to us that we are still finding children being exposed to these dangers.
