Police seized more than 1500 cannabis plants, explosives and firearms and arrested 53 people in a two-day drug bust operation in the Western Bay of Plenty this week.
Fifty police executed 45 search warrants in the past two days, Western Bay of Plenty Area Commander Mike Clement said.
Those arrested faced charges including cannabis possession, supply and cultivation, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of firearms and explosives.
The plants, which were found growing outdoor and indoors, had been destroyed, Mr Clement said.
He could not put a dollar value on them because they were at different growth cycles and the skill level of growers could vary considerably.
Police were "very pleased" with the result, Mr Clement said.
"On this occasion we chose to concentrate our efforts in a no nonsense low tolerance approach to this offending and I am confident that it sends a firm message to those who participate in this type of criminal offending that they will get caught and can expect to be charged."
