Police investigating the attack on a Canadian tourist in the Hutt Valley are hopeful he will be fit enough to revisit the area where the attack may have taken place.
The 25-year-old Vancouver resident was found beaten, robbed of $40 and wandering in a dazed state on a Naenae street, on Wednesday morning.
He remains in Hutt Hospital with a fractured nose, broken ribs, punctured lung and badly bruised face, torso and thighs.
Lower Hutt CIB Detective Sergeant Tony Heathcote said police were still hoping to speak with the man today to piece together more details of the attack.
"He has a punctured lung which is probably the most serious of all his injuries but we are hoping either today or tomorrow he will be able to drive around with us," he said.
As the tourist was not familiar with the area police hoped a drive to the area where he was found would help him remember details of the attack, Mr Heathcote said.
However this would depend on what doctors advised, he said.
The man's name was not expected to be released until Monday as he wanted to contact his family.
Police believe the attack happened on Tuesday night somewhere in Naenae.
A local resident found the tourist about 5am on Wednesday wandering in Norrie Grove, Naenae.
He was dazed, bloody and in a battered state, wearing only a pair of jeans.
Police are searching for two male caucasian in connection with the case.
One is described as 25 to 30 years old, 1.82m tall, with a tattoo on the top of his shaven head.
The second is aged about 25, of slim to medium build, about 1.82cm tall, with dyed, dirty blond hair.
His name may be Mark.
Police would also like to talk to two women seen talking with the victim and the two offenders in The Cue Room Bar and Pool Saloon on Wellington's Courtenay Place, or anyone else who saw the men and the victim in the area.
