One Canadian tourist is dead and another seriously injured after a car and truck collided near Hamilton today.
The car the Canadian man was driving appeared to have crossed the centre line and collided with a light truck on State Highway 1 near Karapiro, 30km southeast of Hamilton, about 12.15pm, Sergeant Gordon Grantham of Cambridge told NZPA.
His female passenger was taken to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.
The man driving the truck suffered minor injuries.
It was unclear why the car had crossed the centre line, Mr Grantham said.
Police were investigating and wanted to speak to the injured woman, he said.
