Thieves broke into a shed on Masterton Intermediate School grounds last Tuesday night and came away with a quad bike, two chainsaws, a welder and a full box of tools.
School caretaker Mike Clarke said the thieves got in by smashing through a lock in the middle of the roll-up shed door.
They helped themselves to a red Suzuki quad bike some time before 7am on Wednesday.
Masterton Intermediate deputy principal Cam Maunder said an identifying sign on the quad bike is a number plate labelled "Mike" that he had gifted Mr Clarke, along with yellow learner stickers.
Mr Clarke said the missing bike had thrown him "out of kilter" because he relies on it to carry his tools around the large grounds.
