A western Southland man who has admitted raping a Dutch tourist appeared in court today on a charge of sexual violation.
Maakiti Joseph Tipene, 25, presser, last week admitted nine charges, including rape, unlawful sexual connection and burglary, relating to an attack on a Dutch couple, who were staying at a holiday park in Tuatapere, 87km northwest of Invercargill, on January 15.
Tipene's counsel, Hugo Young, said in Invercargill District Court today he was still talking to police about the remaining charge of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, which relates to the same incident.
Judge Tony Couch remanded Tipene in custody to reappear on February 16.
Tipene is due to be sentenced on the other charges on April 9.
