TV3 host John Campbell has apologised for the way the station handled its coverage of the war medals theft last week.
His Campbell Live show screened an interview on Thursday with a man, whose face was in shadow, claiming to be responsible for the theft of the medals.
John Campbell told the Sunday Star-Times he "stuffed up" by not explaining his interview was actually a re-enactment.
Viewers were told an actor's voice was used, but people at home were not told the man on screen was also an actor.
Mr Campbell said the network should have given a fuller explanation of the circumstances of the interview.
