Lansdowne opener Henry Cameron continued a remarkable run of form in Wairarapa club cricket when he scored 140 against the Academy XI on the first day of their Bidwell Cup match played over the weekend.
It was the third century Cameron has scored for Lansdowne this season, following on his 133 against Red Star and 120 not out against Rathkeale College, and he has also had scores of 95, 58 and 51.
Cameron's knock against the Academy XI was typically aggressive, including six sixes-three of them in successive scoring shots- and 16 fours.
He and fellow opener Sam Curtis put on 216 runs for the first wicket with Curtis being not out on 83 when the declaration was made at 272-3. Curtis hit nine fours.
Earlier the Academy XI had been dismissed for just 138 with Andy McElrea making 40 and Ally Conway 30 and they were 53-3 in their second innings when stumps were drawn, still 81 runs in arrears of making Lansdowne bat a second time.
Rathkeale College were also in a strong position for outright points at the end of the first day's play in their match with Red Star.
Batting first, Rathkeale reached 278 of which Doug Bracewell made 72, Simon Clinton-Baker 64, Andy Oldfield 45 and Dean van Deventer 33.Bowling for Red Star, Nick Moorcock took 5-65.
Red Star's batting effort was abysmal and they were reeling at 34-4 at stumps.
