Kirsten Cameron has done the Masterton Masters swimming group proud at the world Masters championships in San Francisco.
Competing in the 30-34yrs age group Cameron won a staggering four gold medals and finished fourth in the only other event in which she participated.
The highlight of her successes came in the 800m freestyle which she won in a new world Masters record time of 9mins 14.82secs which bettered the previous best time set by Canadian Lynne Marshall in 1992 by 2secs.
Cameron, who works in Wellington but competes out of the Masterton club, also won golds in the 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle and the 3km open water swim. She was fourth in the 100m freestyle with her effort there obviously being affected by her 800m world record effort which preceded it
The world open water swimming championships in Naples, Italy is the next major assignment for Cameron.
