Former Wairarapa cricket representative Henry Cameron made a welcome return to the Lansdowne fold on Saturday, a typically aggressive century paving the way for a big Umpires Cup win over Rathkeale College
Cameron 's 108 was studded with boundaries and along with Robin James he was part of a 160-run middle order partnership which enabled Lansdowne to score a healthy 280 after being 16-3 at one stage.
Bowling for Rathkeale, Jamie Holmes claimed 3-47.
Rathkeale never looked likely to overhaul the Lansdowne tally but Anton Ross impressed in making 53 while Doug Bracewell made 29 They were all out for 192 with Choi Jackson doing best of the Lansdowne bowlers, finishing with 3-45.
Red Star scored a four-wicket over Wairarapa College in the other Umpires Cup match played on Saturday.
The students were in deep strife at 18-6 after 17 overs but Joe Beech (33) and Dan Ingham (33 not out) got them through to 128. Jarrod Watt with 3-26 and Peter Sigvertson with 3-31 were the main wicket takers for Stars.
Runs didn't come easily for Red Star either but thanks to Joe Hull's unbeaten 45 and Watt's 21 they reached their target six wickets down. Bowling for Wairarapa College, Joel Macklin took 3-37.
