Blockbuster director James Cameron joined thousands of aircraft enthusiasts celebrating a century of flying at Wings Over Wairarapa.
The celebrated South Wairapapa resident spent time with pilot Jim Rankin, seated in the cockpit of his Grumman Avenger torpedo bomber, during a stunning day of vintage aircraft displays.
The crowds were treated to a fly past by replicas of two of New Zealand's earliest aircraft, the Pearse and Pither.
Cameron, accompanied by actress wife Suzy Amis, came to the event armed with a plane-spotting camera and spent time meeting and shaking hands with pilots beside their parked-up vintage planes.
Up to 25,000 people are expected to visit the Hood Aerodrome througout the popular three-day air show.
