KEY POINTS:
Police have found a list of clients in a book which belonged to murdered Christchurch prostitute Mellory Manning.
They now have a message for anyone who used her services - call us before we call you.
Inquiry head Detective Inspector Greg Williams said police would eventually track down all the names in the book.
"If you were a client or you have had recent contact with her when she has been working on the street, then I suggest that you contact us first before we come to you."
It is nearly three weeks since Ms Manning's badly-beaten body was pulled from the Avon River.
The 27-year-old prostitute had been strangled, stabbed in the chest several times and beaten about the head and legs with what appeared to be a piece of reinforcing steel.
She was last seen standing on the corner of Manchester and Peterborough Sts at 10.33pm on December 18.
Her last text message was sent at 10.43pm to a client who she had seen earlier. Police have spoken to the client.
Mr Williams said they had not identified the driver of a 1993 Ford Falcon XR6 or XR8, which Ms Manning was seen getting into.
And police had not received any further sightings of Ms Manning after 10.45pm the night she died and were still to establish exactly where she was attacked.
A male Indian in a white car and the occupants of a dark blue or black four-wheel drive seen at the corner of Peterborough St and Manchester St at the time Ms Manning was seen to get into the XR6 or XR8 have yet to come forward.
"As Mellory was not seen leaving in the Falcon I can't rule out that another vehicle has picked her up."
The Indian man was not a suspect in the case, Mr Williams said.
He said the public had been helpful with information they had passed on.
"Murders like this are often solved by a call from someone in the community."
