Organiser Phil Brazier is disappointed at the lack of entries for the Wairarapa 8-ball singles championship to be held at the Homestead Tavern in Masterton over three successive Saturdays, starting this weekend.
Entries were due to close tonight but with just 16 received, Brazier says the draw will be delayed until later in the week in the hope of attracting more numbers.
"We've had a lot of inquiries from prospective players so hopefully it's just a case of many of them waiting until the last moment before they put their names in," Brazier said.
"We'd like to think we'll at least double what we've got, there's no reason why we shouldn't."
Brazier, an ex-national pool champion, will not be competing, preferring to concentrate on organisation and with cash prizes of $1500 at stake - $1000 to the winner - he is anticipating some keen competition, no matter how many players turn up.
