Call for photos to help preserve Canterbury's heritage

Cantabrians are being asked to dust off their family photo albums and donate images to help preserve the region's heritage.

Christchurch City Libraries' Photo Hunt is an opportunity for locals to reconnect to their past and preserve their photographic treasures for future generations to enjoy, organisers say.

As well as helping to bolster important historical records, all entrants go into the draw to win either a tablet or a Kobo eReader.

"Everyday photos of people's families, friends, places and events may seem ordinary enough when taken," said Christchurch City Libraries content manager Anne Anderson.

"But in time, these images form an amazing visual record of the changing face of Christchurch, helping us all understand where we've come from as a city,"

Images will be carefully scanned and returned before being uploaded for viewing online at: http://ketechristchurch.peoplesnetworknz.info

Entries are open from tomorrow until 5pm on October 31 and can be submitted at any Christchurch city library or online at my.christchurchlibraries.com

Winners will be announced November 27.

Christchurch City Libraries' Photo Hunt is part of Beca Heritage Week, which runs from October 9 - 26 in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula. A wide variety of free events are on offer, including family fun days, talks, walks, exhibitions, open days, tours and much more.
