Gisborne police are investigating a $20,000 wilful damage spree in the city in the early hours of this morning, in which a stolen light truck was used to smash into five cars and damage more than a dozen street signs.
The smashing spree happened around 2.30 after the truck was stolen from a property south of the city.
Police said it was driven into the western suburbs and along the way sideswiped five parked cars, causing extensive panel damage to them.
It also flattened and destroyed at least a dozen road signs.
Police estimated the total damage to be at least $20,000.
The truck was found crashed into a ditch and there was no sign of the occupants.
Police are very keen to get information about its movements and a description of the people in it.
