Former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns will walk from Auckland to Christchurch early next year as part of a rail-safety campaign in memory of his sister, it was reported today.
The Press said Cairns would launch the campaign with Toll New Zealand in Auckland tomorrow, outlining his plans to give rail safety a greater profile.
His sister Louise was killed on August 25, 1993, when a concrete truck drove through a level crossing in the Christchurch suburb of Rolleston and hit the train on which she was a passenger.
