The Cabinet had approved funding for capital works needed to add fluoride to water.
Health Minister Annette King said that because of the public health benefits of adding fluoride to drinking water the Cabinet would pay 100 per cent of the cost. $1.5 million a year is available.
The sanitary works subsidy scheme is aimed at helping small to medium-sized communities upgrade sewage treatment and disposal and add fluoride to drinking water.
