KEY POINTS:
Quick acting bystanders saved the life of a Hamilton motorist who apparently had a heart attack at the wheel, police say.
The 60-year-old driver slumped over the wheel while driving down Whatawhata Rd and crashed into a number of parked cars about 10.30am today, said Constable Myles O'Donnell of the Hamilton strategic traffic unit.
Fortunately for the man people nearby were quick to realise what had happened and began CPR while others raised the alarm, he said.
The man was taken to Waikato Hospital where he was stabilised and later in the day was able to talk to medical staff.
"He's said to have a good chance of full recovery so what those members of the public did was great," Mr O'Donnell said.
