Northland's rescue helicopter was busy attending to medical emergencies and hospital transfers over the weekend.
Pete Turnbull, chief pilot of the Northland Emergency Services Trust, said Saturday was a particularly busy day with three hospital transfers and three medical callouts throughout the region.
A young man was airlifted from Matauri Bay about midnight on Saturday and taken to Whangarei Hospital with serious injuries.
It's understood police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his injuries.
Mr Turnbull said a baby was transported from Kaitaia Hospital to Whangarei Hospital and two hospital transfers made from Whangarei to Auckland on Saturday.
