An Auckland businessman who promoted free flights to Australia in deals pitched at New Zealand businesses has been fined $6,000 for breaching the Fair Trading Act.
Warren Croad sold promotional packages to up to 50 businesses, mainly car yards, which used them to attract customers.
The customers were told they would get free flights to the Gold Coast if they purchased from the businesses, but they had to pay for their own accommodation to qualify.
The Commerce Commission says the cost of the accommodation was inflated to cover the cost of the flight. It says it was a deal that was "too good to be true".
