The Auckland Council has appointed a business advisory panel to go with the Maori Statutory Board, Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel and the Ethnic Advisory Panel, which is to be announced soon.
Councillor and business advisory panel chairman Cameron Brewer has announced 31 business leaders will join him on the panel to advise the council on policies, bylaws and strategies, particularly the economic development strategy.
Members will give their time and the overall cost of running the panel is expected to be in the region of $6000 to $8000.
Mr Brewer said the panel would meet quarterly as a shareholder forum to provide a full and frank dialogue between business and local government.
Members include many of the city's most senior business leaders, including Auckland Chamber of Commerce chief executive Michael Barnett, Fletcher Construction chief executive Jonathan Ling, SkyCity chief executive Nigel Morrison and Employers and Manufacturers Association chief executive Alasdair Thompson.
Mayor Len Brown said the council needed to work alongside Auckland business to build the platform they needed to deliver jobs, investment and development.
