KEY POINTS:
The Department of Labour has seconded a manager to replace Immigration boss Mary Anne Thompson.
Department chief executive Christopher Blake said Andrew Annakin, deputy secretary of the workplace group, would be acting head for the next nine months.
Mr Annakin was described as an experienced public servant who had worked at the department for eight years.
He would "ensure that business as usual continues within Immigration New Zealand, while reviews associated with it are undertaken", a department statement said.
Mr Blake said Mr Annakin knew department business well.
"He will work closely with me and our strategic leadership team to steer Immigration New Zealand through the reviews process and forward."
Ms Thompson resigned last month, just before doubts about qualifications she claimed on her CV, including a PhD from the London School of Economics, were made public.
Police are considering whether to lay charges.
Ms Thompson had been in the spotlight over her role in assisting family members to get New Zealand residency.
Four separate inquiries into her tenure are being conducted - the State Services Commission, Auditor-General and Immigration Department are also investigating.
