The Wairarapa's first Inter-Club Challenge, held over two meetings in July and August, was everything its organisers had hoped form with Taurarua district motorcycle club Bush Riders coming out on top.
Joe Wallace, president of the Wairarapa Motorcycle Club which organised the challenge gives his take on the challenge.
What started out as the bemused ramblings of the Wairarapa Motorcycle Club committee over a drink or two at our monthly meeting culminated in a superbly run and patronised two meeting event.
Representatives of the following clubs participated, vying to be the first club to hold the magnificent trophy on offer - Bush Riders, Martinborough, Gold Coast, Kapiti Mana, Taupo and Wairarapa.
The first meeting was held on July 19 on a flat track, under a clearing sky, over three intense rounds of racing.
We had a very good turnout and we were absolutely rapt when the second meeting dawned on August 9 with warm, spring like weather.
This time we raced on a natural terrain surface with riders having to negotiate a couple of jumps which made for an exciting spectacle.
Congratulations go to the Bush Riders who became the first recipients of the trophy, closely pushed all the way by the hosts, Wairarapa.
