Wairarapa-Bush are showing the way with their support for a 2011 Rugby World Cup promotion.
The Sign Your Jersey initiative is part of the NZRFU's rugby legacy programme and invites schools, clubs and referees' associations to have their members sign two jerseys. One will appear during the tournament celebrations and the other is to be displayed in their clubrooms or school.
Wairarapa-Bush community rugby administrator Doug Bracewell said yesterday six jerseys from the region were already signed and ready to go.
"From what we are hearing, the response here is about as good as anywhere else in the country and we know there's still more jerseys to come," he said. Last week saw 160 JAB players from the Masterton Red Star club aged 5-13 sign a specially made adult-sized jersey. Organiser Peter Semmens said they got a "real buzz" out of what they saw as their contribution to the All Blacks winning the World Cup for what would only be the second time. There to greet them was the coach of the 1987 All Blacks, who won the inaugural competition for the Webb Ellis Trophy, Sir Brian Lochore.
Along with Bracewell, he gave a preview of what would happen with the jersey during the promotion.
