A bus passenger has been seriously injured after the Waka Pacific bus they were on was involved in a crash on Auckland's Southern Motorway this morning.
Inspector Dave Walker said two rear wheels on the truck's back axle came off and one collided with the bus.
St John Ambulance took a seriously injured bus passenger to Auckland Hospital.
A spokesman said three more with minor injuries were taken to Middlemore Hospital.
Waka Pacific is owned by NZ Bus. General manager of operations Zane Fulljames said the company is working with police.
"The driver appears to be uninjured. However, he is severely shaken and has been stood down from his duties so that support can be provided to him," Mr Fulljames said.
Police were earlier warning motorists of delays on the motorway after the crash between the truck and the bus.
The crash happened between Otahuhu and Mt Wellington, a statement from police said.
Police said traffic heading north has been restricted to two lanes and police are advising motorists to find alternative routes.
Inspector Walker said the bus has been removed from the scene but the truck is still on the motorway.
The police serious crash unit is investigating the crash.
