KEY POINTS:
A Northland bus driver died today after a suspected heart attack, which caused the vehicle he was driving to drift off the road and hit a bank, police said.
The name of the 68-year-old Whangarei man has not yet been released.
Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he died at the scene of the 7am incident on Russell Rd in Helena Bay, 16km northeast of Whakapara.
He was the sole occupant of the empty school bus, which received minimal damage.
