Bus crashes carrying 35-40 schoolchildren

Several children were injured when a truck and a bus carrying 35 to 40 primary school students collided near Taupo today.

Police say the crash happened at 3.58pm at Kinloch on the intersection of Whangamata and Poihipi Roads.

Four injured students were taken to Taupo Hospital along with the unconscious truck driver.

The students on the bus were from Kinloch Primary School and other schools in the Taupo area.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash .

The students' injuries were minor and they have now been released from hospital.

Victim Support would be contacting the parents of the children in the crash, Senior Sergeant Tony Jeurissen of Taupo said.
