Members of a Dutch tour party had a narrow escape from serious injury last evening when their bus was involved in a collision with a logging truck in Mid-Canterbury.
Eight of the party of 26 and their driver received cuts and bruises but police said the incident could have been much more serious had circumstances been slightly different.
Senior Sergeant Arnold Kelly, of Ashburton, said that the bus and the truck finished up in a paddock after the collision near Mt Somers about 4.45 pm
Eight passengers from the bus and the bus driver were taken by ambulance to Ashburton hospital suffering from cuts and bruises.
One person was kept in hospital overnight but all have now been discharged.
Eighteen other passengers and the truck driver escaped injury but were left very shaken.
Senior Sergeant Kelly said the tour party was from Holland and would continue to Christchurch when they were able to travel.
