A jury has been back in court twice today to view video footage of a prison confrontation which led to Graeme Burton facing a charge of attempted murder.
Burton is on trial in the High Court at Auckland, charged with attempting to murder Dwayne Marsh at Auckland Prison at Paremoremo on December 20 last year.
Burton stabbed Marsh several times with a sharpened steel rod in a corridor outside the cells in Paremoremo.
One of these stab wounds, a wound to the heart, required emergency hospital surgery to save Marsh's life.
The jury returned this morning for a second day of deliberations to view the video footage of the incident for a third time.
They then returned again about noon asking to see a still shot of the moment Marsh came out his cell, as Burton began pursuing him up and down the corridor.
The jury decided at 1pm to deliberate during lunch, having deliberated for about 9-1/2 hours.
Crown lawyer Deb Bell says Burton's actions clearly showed he intended to kill Marsh.
Burton's lawyer Peter Tomlinson said his client may have intended to injure Marsh but there was a reasonable doubt as to whether there was an intention to kill.
Several suppression orders are in place, including an order that no historical photos of Burton be published.
