A burst water main in the Wellington suburb of Newlands last night has left many residents without water for more than 12 hours.
Wellington City Council spokeswoman Trina Saffioti said the water main, which burst around 7pm, would normally have been fixed more quickly but "this one was quite complicated".
Many households had no water this morning, while others had very low pressure water.
It was not known how many residents were affected but it was the entire suburb, she said.
"We're hoping it will be fixed by 9am if not earlier," she said today.
