A burst water main in Wellington central city has been repaired after creating a spectacular geyser this afternoon.
The burst pipe, on the corner of Victoria St near Manners Mall, shot water about 30 metres high into the air and blocked the path of traffic.
The stretch of road is the scene of extensive road works, where a pedestrian mall is being converted to carry local buses.
A fire services spokeswoman told NZPA that police, council and the fire service had all been at the scene, which was cordoned off but the water had now been contained.
