KEY POINTS:
Medical experts have confirmed the severe burns suffered by a toddler who later died in Tokoroa were not fresh when she was brought to hospital.
The experts told police the burns would have caused Tyla-Maree Dayrll Flynn extreme pain.
Tyla-Maree, 22 months, was taken to Tokoroa Hospital at 9am on Friday suffering severe burns after being immersed in hot water.
Emergency staff at the hospital were unable to save her.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper of Rotorua police said the investigation into the death was continuing.
A number of witnesses had been spoken to, but some of those would be re-interviewed to clarify some discrepancies, Mr Loper said.
Police were awaiting specialist reports and inquiries would continue well into next week, he said.
