The family of a 16-year-old boy burned at a party over the weekend are upset at what they say is a "dreadful" incident.
The teen, Hayden Calder, is said to have been set alight after being doused with petrol at the party, in Hastings. Police have arrested a 17-year-old male in relation to the incident, charging him with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
A family member said the attack, which left Hayden with serious burns to his back and neck, was horrific.
"It's a dreadful thing ... almost unbelievable."
A Hawkes Bay Regional Hospital spokeswoman said the teen was in a stable condition at the hospital.
