KEY POINTS:
A 41-year-old man has been charged following a spate of burglaries in which a group of women in their eighties and nineties lost thousands of dollars following an elaborate scam.
The man, who cannot be named, was arrested in Mangere Bridge last week following a joint operation that included staff from Counties Manukau, North Shore and Auckland City police.
He is facing 21 charges which related to alleged offending against six women, all of whom are between 78 and 93 years old.
It is understood further charges are expected to be laid relating to another 10 elderly women who live throughout the Auckland region.
The Herald ran a story about the man's alleged offending last year and he has also featured on the television programme Police 10/7.
He allegedly tricked his way into elderly women's homes after gaining their trust before stealing their bank cards while they were distracted.
The man was declined name suppression when he appeared in the Auckland District Court late last week.
His appeal against that decision is yet to be heard in the High Court.
When the man reappeared in court yesterday, he was remanded in custody until next month.
THE ALLEGATIONS
* Charges all relate to six female victims aged 78-93.
* They include burglary (3), obtaining a document (3) and using a document (15).
* Additional charges relating to a further 10 victims, aged 80-93, are expected to be laid before defendant's next appearance.
