A trio of friends sat in a car at Rotorua's Lakefront dressed in stolen fur coats drinking stolen alcohol as they divvied up their burglary booty, a court heard.
In the Rotorua District Court, Shannon Rogers, 19, pleaded guilty to burgling a home in Amokura St on October 9 this year. Zoe Paulette Wrigley, also 19, pleaded guilty to burglary. Police are yet to speak to a third person.
Judge Chris McGuire told Rogers the female victim had been left distraught by their actions. They had returned to her property to steal more items after the first robbery.
"No wonder this woman feels so violated," the judge said.
The three stole a large amount of alcohol from the house plus a television set, DVD player and clothing.
Judge McGuire noted that Rogers had two previous convictions, which were also alcohol-related. "What is looming large is alcohol ... I would say you have a major, no, massive, problem with alcohol now," he said.
The trio had noticed the home was unoccupied earlier in the day and returned about 11pm when one of the group was lifted through a side window.
They stole a television and some wine, then returned.
"They spent a lot longer in the house - feeling triumphant and finding a large supply of top-shelf alcohol which they began to drink," the police said.
The group took paintings, clothing and shoes and then drove to a spot near the Lakefront at Ohinemutu where they drank alcohol and put on stolen fur coats, before dividing up the stolen property.
They have been remanded on bail for pre-sentence reports and sentencing on December 20.
